The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

It's not by Ulrich, it seems like another band that got him to play keyboards. Not the most inspired effort - the waveform speaks for itself :) There can only be one My Bloody Valentine.

Hi Mates,

"in a recent interview at Drowned In Sound, Vinita Joshi, Ulrich Schnauss’ manager at Rocket Girl Records, said the following with respect to a new album:
Ulrich’s new album will hopefully be out by the end of the year as well, but we haven’t confirmed the label or labels we’ll be working with yet."

by karis

Here at our label Pedigree cuts, if you weren’t already aware, we have been recently recording the new Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk album called ‘EPIC’.

And as a celebration of the release, we have decided to make a video, but we need your help!

For Schnauss and Munk’s track Johnny (sentimental fool) we wanted to make an ‘inspirational’ video, but using your home videos. We find the composers music ‘inspirational’ and we want you to send in your home videos, of the anything that inspires you personally, whether it is your family, or a walk over the park.

Send download links of your 30 second ‘Inspirational’ home videos to: karis@pedigreecuts.com

Please email all your details with the footage then we will credit your work with the video.

We will not be accepting entries after 22nd of February, so please send in your links to your videos before this date.

Stay tuned for video and release album release dates

All the best to all,

Randy.

I'd say unless there is a promo campaign that reaches outside of Ulrich/Manual fan circles, they should release the album as a physical object, it's a bit late to ask people to pay for the same mp3s they've had for months.

Otherwise... cool photo - Ulrich's promotional pictures should all be like that - playing keyboards, surrounded by gear.

For any non-subscribers and to save all clicking through - the regular Ulrich Myspace update, pasted in below...

23/02/11

hello, here's a little update regarding some upcoming shows - been making some good progress with the solo record and looking forward to trying out more new music in a live setting. the collaboration album with mark peters is as good as done (one or two more sessions i'd say) and has been provisionally scheduled for an early autumn release date - will post further details asap. also working on another song for kirsty hawkshaw's album. take care, u.

1) GIGS

friday, march11: lithografio theater, patra/greece
saturday, march12: block 33, thessaloniki/greece
sunday, march13: tiki bar, athens/greece
friday, april22: zdravo mildai, skopje/macedonia
saturday, april23: start the bus/bristol, uk (live and dj set afterwards)

...and now for something completely different: rejoined frank mueller's beroshima project - some of the first results have just been released on 12" as well as a download.

3) HOME STEREO FAVOURITES

*riya "seems like" (autonomic)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVZH6B8Je-Y
great chords, great lyrics - easily one of my favourite songs of last year...

*luke slater "hectic bag" (gpr)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbtp8tVTF80
current favourite re-discovery: can't stop listening to slater's 7th plain releases - true classics...

*rockwell "aria" (critical)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcrXQjbXTSw
this decade's photek - unbelievably precise and inventive editing...

*commix "japanese electronics (instra:mental moog remix)" (metalheadz)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFmdTDIOhzs
an anthem - merges everything that's worth remembering about contemporary electronic music into one track - detroit, london etc.

*asc "phobos" (nonplus)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8qIW-j8jA8
an irresistible groove paired with captivating athmospheres - the logical evolution of the 90s deep blue sound...

*lenzman ft riya "open page" (metalheadz)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4uOGQT0glk
elegiacally elegant: superbly crisp lenzman production...

blu mar ten "believe me" (blu mar ten)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETwu--PJfpA
gorgeous remix of an already wonderful track...

*redeyes ft deeizm "luv&haight (matrix remix)" (spearhead)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnhJ6Ina2hs
this is probably what it would've sounded like if rodgers and edwards would've recorded a dnb track - very soulful and a chorus to die for...

*consequence "a man and a woman" (exit)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnNs-DHNJmw
delicious quadruple vinyl album on exit - excellent contributions from asc, instra:mental and d-bridge included...

*bcee "generations" (spearhead)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od8srM-213Y
unbelievably dense, almost claustrophobic despite a tastefully reduced arrangement - the killer bline deserves an extra mention...

*broken little sister "silence" (happy prince)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1ccOAvysYc
bit of gaze anyone? good song...

*stray "frost" (med school music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOZjUQYEfN4
*syncopix "smile" (sync:saphir)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5Uib4GlxCI
gotta have the impression only few other "happening" genres at the moment reach the level of musicality that dnb seems to incorporate so effortlessly. two tracks that involve an -in this context- unusual usage of guitars - in fact, this is simply timeless good music rather than the "style over substance"-fodder we're being served so often.

Here is Ulrich's big update of today, via Facebook:

‎01) A FEW WORDS...
hello everyone,
rather than the usual list of gigs, releases etc. i thought i owe an explanation on what's been going on here - or more precisely: on what's NOT been going on (solo record release etc.)...
apart from a string of unfortunate events i was also facing a musical dilemma after the release of "goodbye" in 2007 that convinced me it was time for some adjustments:
basically, in the last 15 years (since i started recording and releasing music on a more or less professional level) i've always worked within the frame of a specific genre: dnb in the 90s, shoegaze/electronica afterwards.
such a frame may be limiting but it also provides a comforting guide enabling a musician to learn in a safe environment.
however, after the completion of "goodbye" i knew that i had only very little left to say as far as indie/shoegaze is concerned - at the same time it didn't feel challenging enough to just switch to another genre.
instead with this new album i've tried to make a first move in the direction of creating something that is much less reliant on obvious references and therefore closer to a replication of the sounds i hear.
as a result i don't think i've been enjoying working on music as much as i have recently for a very long time - the downside is that the necessary preparation and hopefully successful attempts at avoiding certain routines haven't exactly sped things up either.
at least now though, pretty much exactly four years after the release of "goodbye", i'm working on the final bits for the new record.
while i can't name a release date yet (looks like the actual music will be finished by next month), i can at least guarantee that all live gigs from now on will entirely consist of interpretations of new material.
ten years after cco (to my surprise) suggested releasing "knuddelmaus" on a limited 7" i'm still amazed what this has actually turned into -
especially since i've essentially always made this music without giving too much thought wether other people would enjoy it as well.
i'm grateful for the support (despite failing to answer all emails, listening to every demo etc.) and hope that some of you will like the new music although (or maybe even because!) it may contain some surprises.
dankeschoen.

02) SCHNAUSS & PETERS...
mark and i have recently completed "underrated silence" - a predominantly instrumental album of piano/guitar based pieces that probably resembles "far away trains" in terms of an approach that seeks beauty in simplicity rather than layering millions of tracks.
we're hoping to get this released by january/februay 2012 (will post further details asap) - in the meantime you may want to have a listen to "balcony sunset" - we recorded this for unseen's charity double album "for nihon"...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlsvtQwOiC8

03) ALL IN THE GOLDEN AFTERNOON...
a couple of weeks ago i've finished working on a joint album with rachel goldstar and carlos jackson (aka all in the golden afternoon) - the soundcloud link below leads to one of the songs we've recorded - labels that are interested in releasing this project should approach rachel via rachelgoldstar@yahoo.com for further info...
http://soundcloud.com/ulrich-schnauss/ ... -afternoon

04) KIRSTY HAWKSHAW ALBUM...
another project that's been worked on for a while - currently in the process of finalizing the last two tracks. labels interested in helping to get this released can approach us via <mailto:twotreesep@gmail.com>twotreesep@gmail.com -
below is a youtube link for "dreaming of now"...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsgibHK0Boo

05) BEROSHIMA...
after a longer break i've recorded another album with frank mueller - "polyphonication" was released on mueller records in june. here's a youtube link to the official video for the title track:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etHhW4k7cDs

07) FREE DOWNLOAD...
i released two dnb albums in the 90s - "the 7th seal" in 97 and "landscapes" in 99. in between those another record was completed but remained unreleased. while recently sorting out my old DATs i found the master for this album.
it's by no means essential listening and definitely inferior to the cutting edge releases of that era - however, i thought some people may still enjoy checking it out - wether for nostalgic reasons or just out of curiosity.
below are links to a free sendspace download...

08) ENGINEERS...
is the band in which i'm playing keys. "to an evergreen" appears on the recent album "in praise of more" and has now been released as a single backed by excellent remixes courtesy of helios, beroshima, elika, a shoreline dream and nao.

is the band in which i used to play keys. some of the material that was recorded while i was part of the line up is going to see the light of day soon. watch this space for details:
