ulrich schnauss update

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Update on the Ulrich Schnauss & Jonas Munk collaboration - and great news for all Schnaussers...

The album is actually now streamable in full via the Pedigree Cuts site - more info on how to do this here... http://blog.pedigreecuts.com/?p=602

This latest Squalor mix also opens with two of the tracks here (with Ulrich's permission)... http://soundcloud.com/randysqualor/rand ... nds-vol-35

NOTE - Please do NOT rip/file-share/torrent these streams - as it will simply jeoparise labels sharing stuff in this way in future... (This was also a request of Ulrich.)

Instead, please just enjoy these streams - and hopefully we'll see the album released in the future!

Best to all,

Randy.

Another track written by Kirsty Hawkshaw and produced by Ulrich Schnauss.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSo65z8mDDQ
It should shortly be available on a three-track EP by Ulrich & Kirsty called "Two trees" - the full album is also coming later this year.

'Two trees' EP by Ulrich & Kirsty is now available for purchase.

Hemp paper, Kirsty's signature and all, the price is still rather steep. For me it amounted to 16 euros including shipping - for just three songs.

Great news on the new EP... (Big thanks as always to Alex.)

Just to reassure any waverers (due to the price, etc.) - I literally received my copy today, the day after ordering it...

So it's 100% in stock and ready to go. Also looks like it was packaged/sent by Kirsty herself... so if you're wondering about getting your money's worth from the artists, there you go...

And needless to say - it's lovely of course...

Best to all,

Randy.

"Engineers, one of our favourite new purveyors of shoegaze, have announced the release of their third album.
It’ll be called In Praise of More and will be released on 4th October via Kscope.
...
joining Mark and singer Simon Phipps are new drummer Matthew Linley, bassist Daniel Land and – most significantly – keyboardist (and German-born electronica genius) Ulrich Schnauss.
Yes, you heard that right – Ulrich Schnauss."

Here's the nice new blog update from Ulrich, for those who no longer do Myspace...

19/08/10 still alive...
hello, next week it'll be a year since the last message -
first of all i'd therefore like to apologize to everyone that i may have disappointed by providing such a drastic lack of updates.
to be honest the last two years haven't necessarily been the best - this is also one of the main reasons why i found myself in a situation where it seemed easier to work with other people than just on my own.
however, more recently i've made some good progress trying to get back on track - although i'm probably not gonna be able to stick to the idea of releasing a new album this year anymore it still shouldn't take that much longer from now - thanks for your patience!
i'll be testing some of the new material at the upcoming gigs (see below) - due to the nature of my ableton-based set up the live versions will differ quite strongly from the recorded ones though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XVLeJTujJ4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ5aUvpSbp0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epCETiNCbtU

here's an overview on what else has been happening:

01) MISSING DEADLINES
is a compilation of the (in my opinion) best remix work i've done over the last decade - it's recently been released on rocketgirl.
rocketgirl.co.uk

02) KABOOM
is the name of gregg araki's new movie - he kindly offered mark peters (engineers) and myself the opportunity to provide some score music. it really surprised us how much we liked the results which is why we decided to record some additional music in order to turn this into a full album. the material is mainly instrumental and features me playing quite a bit of piano rather than just synths - something that i haven't done on a record before. 8 out of 10 songs have been recorded already - towards the end we'll also add a couple of surprise collaborations.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrmMqff2e8g

03) ENGINEERS
after playing live with the band for a while i've now joined engineers as a full member - the new line up also features daniel land on bass as well as matthew linley on drums. some of the first recordings of this new set up will be featured on the upcoming album "in praise of more" - due via kscope in early october.
you can see us live at the old blue last in hoxton on september21.
myspace.com/engineers0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOKNwjIt5rg

04) EXIT CALM
i've mixed and co-produced exit calm's debut album which has recently been released on the ac30 label.
exit-calm.com

05) KIRSTY HAWKSHAW
only two or three songs are missing now until the completion of the joint record i've been working on with kirsty hawkshaw - in the meantime, a limited ep featuring 3 songs that will also appear on the album can be ordered through kirsty's website.
kirstyhawkshaw.co.uk
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=386042850964

06) JONAS MUNK AKA MANUAL
and i have recorded an album for pedigree cuts - a library publishing company specifically releasing music aimed at the film and tv market. at the moment there are no plans for a general public release - however, all songs can be previewed on the pedigree website.
parties interested in licensing this music should get in touch with pedigree.
pedigreecuts.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgIJa9oi1zA

07) OTHER COLLABORATIONS
two songs i recorded with all in the golden afternoon and a shoreline dream respectively will feature on an upcoming rocketgirl compilation.
allinthegoldenafternoon.tumblr.com
ashorelinedream.com

08) OLDIES
hexaquart was my tech-house project in the late 90s/early 00s - false industries have released two tracks from those days that i recorded with paul davis aka junkie sartre (download only).
myspace.com/falseindustries

i have also created profiles for two other old projects:

myspace.com/tinkabellmusik (electronic pop)

Another new interview:

Not much new there compared to the recent blog update, unless you're interested in Ulrich's political views

In Praise Of More now has a mini-website, with 4 tracks available for preview:

This new track has replaced Einfeld as Ulrich's gig opener. Love the chord progression that is reaching the stratosphere.

A new interview where Ulrich talks in detail about what happens in his head when making music (there is a cute bit about colours) and what message he tries to send with his music (I agree with that message wholeheartedly). Oh, and what is the current target date for album 4.

This clip is, distortion and all, gives an idea of what will be possibly one of Ulrich's greatest hits:

Particularly the first 30 seconds or so. I was soaring when I heard this for the first time live.
