The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.
Mixmag review is terrible - in the written sense. Only covers half the tracks and seems largely uninterested in the return of one of Mixmags own GIANTS of dance. Was there no-one else in the office free? Or all too busy listening to Skrillex?
Yes, in fact all those reviews seem pretty dreadful. Who do they even bother - so one of the tracks is "a joyful growl of bubbling, deep techno, bathed in a bath of squiggly acid" - seriously is this helpful information for anybody? Or is it just pretentious wank so they keep on sending them promos?
I have to say that when I first heard the DJ version of Wonky, it felt like something was missing. After hearing the album version, I can say that I love the MC rap over the top of the original DJ mix instrumentals. It fits so well, and I feel it even makes the track more frantic, which I love. I'm glad this grew on me because I was disappointed in the original version I heard in the Maida Vale set.
Mojo gave it 8 out of 10 - "The best Orbital album since 1994's Snivilisation? Certainly."
Q gave it 8 out of 10 - "Wonky restores the Hartnolls' reputation among electronic music's greats."
I know alot of us are "middle-aged" at this stage (I'm still acting my shoe size personally) but I wasn't expecting a review from the Financial Times, never mind a positive one.
