ORBITAL LP8 - 2011

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

ORBITAL LP8 - 2011

Post by darkorb »

Discuss....

I'm hoping for a really dancey record, in contrast to the soundtrack work that was Blue Album (though definitely not a bad thing).

Brown Album meets Insides would do for me.

I want another 10 songs as good as Dont Stop Me & TGIG. (On CD1)

Preferably I would like there to be a 2 parter to finish off the album, so we get a 20 minute epic.
We havent really had a drawn out tune since Meltdown, which in my important opinion is the only thing about The Altogether that works... but thats another story.

Uptempo with maybe 1 or 2 more slower "thought provoking" tunes.

I think the Red Album  should actually be a double album.
Its about time.
Maybe CD1 should be the polished album, with CD 2 being a more rougher approach; like a mixed version of CD1 but with added Orbitalisms, so it sounds live and direct.

I think a 2-disc might be a little much for a comeback album. I'm hoping for a little more than an hour.

I think these two new tracks are a sign for longer tracks to come. They should do another two parter on that Red Album. :)

But surely this is about quality, not quantity.
Would you think any less of Computer World if it was slightly longer?

I think most fans would complain if their favourite artists released material shorter than 40 mins. I know I would be disappointed by that.
But then there is the argument that those 40 minutes could be sublime and any more tracks would ruin the feel of the album.

To be honest I rarely listen to an album from start to finish nowadays, not like the old days of cassette, where the alternations (is that a word?) between sides would mean in a lot of cases a better familiarisation with the latter part of the album. But I still think there is a place for an "album" given the download generation, and in my (important) opinion, this should be more than 30 minutes. Quality Controlled of course.

I would be gutted if the concept of an album fizzled out, I still love buying albums and reading the liner notes. I still think thats important for music lovers.

Orbital are one of those bands that often (historically) greatly rely upon long structures in their compositions where the tracks are capable of morphing from one atmosphere to another taking the listener on an unexpected journey (and no I havent smoked anything before anyone asks!).
Granted, over the years the tracks may have been more stramlined but arguably some of their best output has been the more drawn out affairs...

i dont think the length of the album matters. I rarely listen to an album from start to finish as most of my music listening is when i'm driving. I reach a destination and turn off the CD, only to return to listening to the rest on the way back. Quality is always the key.

on a side note: In Sides remains the Orbital album i listen to most and thats a whoping 74 mins (i think).

I find 45 mins barely a warm-up. There are some great albums that are way less than this of course. If recording for myself I would never put on less than an hour of tunes on a cd.

exactly my thinking :)

and thx there is discussion about 2 disc album, then i would like to get 1st cd with around 8-10 average long tracks with more dancy sound - Brown Album like. the 2nd should be about 6 tracks which will be about 10-20 minutes and similar to In Sides, with more spoken word samples as on Snivilisation :)
