Long Range Digital Release

Post by usernick »

From their Myspace page:

"With time, musicians pass the ultimate test, that of time itself. Long Range includes one individual who most definitely passes that timeless test. As electronic dance becomes ever more fashionable again, then those original progenitors still active will shape and be the driving force within the genre.

This time around Phil Hartnoll (yes, him from Orbital) has teamed up with Nick Smith, soundscapist and sound engineer extraordinaire. If this is our introduction to Long Range and this is their statement of intent then we are shown a heavy precedent with this digital only release. With 7 LPs and several club/dance classics under his belt already and with Nick Smith and his 2 LPs and film work with Ridley Scott and numerous adverts this collaboration is going to be no flash in the pan. Joining Phil and Nick in the studio has been Ben Burns and James Day on these two tracks, two of Brighton's upcoming premiere electronic producers.

LIE DOWN begins with an ambience belonging at the dawn of creation, and this in indeed a birth, the birth of Long Range. Huge cinematic landscapes are invoked, as sounds hang in space, punctuated by an infectious beat that gradually takes you away with its soft, luxurious textured techno. The sort of track to be expected at 4.30am at any fine beach party in the world as the first glimpses of dawn appear on the horizon, filling one with a feeling of inner warmth . If that be so, then at 1.30am WHICH WAY NOW was being cranked out the sound system as the crowd heaved and throbbed as one unified mass. In short, a killer track and if heard at 50,000 Watts it would be enough to shake the world. Taking off from where Orbital stepped down, we are also taken in a new, more lushful direction. The imprint of Phil Hartnoll is chiselled like stone in these two tracks and when mixed with the sonic capabilities of Nick Smith we are treated to some truly inspirational music. Pleasing fans of old and certain to attract many of new, as one of the masters of the genre comes back to the fold and fires out a salvo of solid sonic symphonies.

Long Range, far-reaching. Certainly a ballistic beginning for a new generation of electronic musicians. See them at Glastonbury, Glade, Bloom Beautiful Days in the UK amongst other festivals and concerts around Europe this summer.

Although there has been an exclusive early release of their LP in Japan, this is the first foray in Europe for Long Range. Next month and thereafter expect some unbelievable remixes from the likes of Steve Mac, David Parr and Hybrid as the summer unfolds, these boys certainly have set their sights."

Oh, btw, if you already have the Japanese album, then you've already got both of the tracks on the digital release! I bought it just to make sure! :P
