Production values on The Ideal Condition

Post by ilikejam »

I love the album, but the experience is somewhat marred by the amount of compression used (or maybe the levels are just too high?)

In 'For Silence' - at around 2:33 into the track, it sounds like the kick drum clips.

In 'Nothing Else Matters' - the output meters on my CD deck are *completely* saturated for ~50% of the track, and the vocal sounds pretty harsh in places as a result.

Is it just me?

i don't remember noticing it on this album, but i haven't looked (ok listened  ) out for it.
this sounds like a mastering issue rather than a production one, and it's sadly one that's becoming more and more common. i need to go to bed rather than write loads about it and dig up references right now, but search google (and youtube) for "loudness war" and you'll get the idea.

welcome to the board, by the way :D
