What will the live show be like?

Post by dancook_uk »

Hi. New to the forum. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea how Mr Hartnoll will be performing live; there is a lot of emphasis on the live instrumentation, so will he be playing with some kind of orchestra? I just thought that might be the reason why Bridgewater hall was picked for the Manchester venue (acoustics etc etc).
If he will be performing with live instrumentation, does anyone think there will be any chance of orbital songs being revisited - perhaps the sort of ones that couldn't really be performed live as Orbital (I'm thinking that tracks like Adnans, Transient, I wish I had Duck Feet would work well with the new stuff).
Any thoughts?

I have no insider knowledge whatsoever but I doubt very much whether he'll do any Orbital stuff.

Longerange will though, I hear.
Slugs! HE created slugs! They can't hear. They can't speak. They can't operate machinery. Are we not in the hands of a lunatic?

Longrange don't technically play any Orbital in their set ;)

They do play a VERY familiar track indeed, but it's NOT an Orbital track :D

Hmmm, and spoil the surprise? PM me if you really wanna know :D

Anyway, it's not that hard to work out. If you know your Orbital, you'll be able to work out the track that sounds EXACTLY like an Orbital track but isn't :D

ok, but does anyone know anything about how he will be playing live? i.e. on his own, with a band, with an orchestra?

Listening to the album then I'd say he'll probably have Instrumental playing with him, plus maybe a guitarist and drummer...

It certainly seems to have that sort of feel to it, so the live show should come over well.

Still, it'll be interesting and a good end to the Big Chill this year too :D

From EQ Mag:

One of the biggest parts of the Orbital experience was their blistering live shows. Ask any fan about these gigs, and they’ll go misty eyed. Thankfully, Paul plans to take The Ideal Condition on the road too, filling the stage with nine musicians (including four keyboardists) and playing the album live – properly live.

"The whole thing would be hand played as much as possible," says Paul. "I want to do shows in an old school, Kraftwerk kind of way, where there’s just a load of people hammering it out on instruments. So we’ve got a wind player, two string players, Leanne Hall on vocals and guitar, and a drummer.

"It’ll be interesting – and because I’ve not got 100 musicians like there are on some of the album tracks, it will sound quite different. Where there’s a brass section on Dust Motes at the end of the album, I’ve been using really nice analogue synths to get brass Vangelis sort of sounds. In the ’90s it sounded hideous, but now people have realised that Vangelis were pioneers of the synthesiser with what they did for Blade Runner."

If he brings this to the Picnic, there will be one happy memeber of the crew anyway

One thing though....
