I'm thinking about going to Vista.
But i want some opinions.

I could post it on another forum, but i want the non-extreme-It-nerds opinion about the OS.

beta tested for a long time.

question to ask yourself is why would you upgrade ? if you have no answer to that then dont. Its more intensive on your machine (obviously) and you need a good graphic card to really benefit.

well
one reason is because i need a fresh install anyway, might as well do it for a longer time.

second reason is: i'm going to get one of those fancy wacom tablets, and they have all cool features in Vista, like flicks, that make you copy / paste / delete etc with a handmovement.

I'm getting this one:

so that's why.
and it looks fancy.

see if you can find out if all your existing hardware will work on it.

i haven't used it myself, but i've read many more negative comments than positive ones. advice seems to be to wait at least until the first service pack comes out - which sounds very sensible.

i got a new notebook in February and it's vista capable. I just made an upgrade (came with package for a hefty S$329 + shipping delivery charges. Phhft!) and they are taking ages. Will let u know what Vista is like.

We have a couple of people here using those tablets on Windows XP. Not heard about the extra features they have in Vista though.

Dont get me wrong. Vista works well and performs well but like any new O/S its going to be more intense on the resources. Just like new games need more memory etc etc. So when you come to run whatever you normally did in your O/S you find that it has less memory to use etc etc so poorer performance.

I have 2 hard drives for my laptop and 2 hard drives for my desktop so that i can run both Vista and Windows XP depending on what i will be doing :) thats the way forward... lol

And a bigger hard drive, graphics card, sound card... In fact, get a new computer! :P

Not going to try Vista until all the hardware companies have released new drivers, all the software manufacturers have provided Vista-compatible programs, and a service pack has been released...

Did, however, manage to grab Office 2007 for 17 quid on Friday (company licensing for home users) - that's more like it! 8)

I actually bought Vista a couple of months ago, when I bought a dx10-compatible video card (a very sexy GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB) and some other upgrades, but I've yet to switch to it. I tried, but had some problems with certain games and programs that are absolutely vital to me, so I've decided to put it on hold for now (although I do have a dual boot setup with XP and Vista)

When directx10 games start coming out, though, I will probably check it out again.

Some people don't get the Transformers. It's simple. They're big robots. And they change into things. And they fight. This is beautiful and mad. If you do not get this, there is something missing in your soul. - Paul O'Brien
