Tech help needed please...

Post by Dog »

Ok, So I've uninstalled software that used to start automatically upon booting the PC. I've checked the 'Start Up' folder in 'My Documents' but the bastard thing is still trying to start...

Where else would I be likely to find the command to run the exe? I know theres somewhere else, but I can't remember where...

Anyone?

start > run
msconfig (and enter)

go to the startup tab

there you can find all the start-up programs :)

Tim/Ken, thanks... I couldn't remember what it was.

Sid, already ripped the registry to pieces.

This is where I wished I'd carried on doing my MSCE.

Still, if what I've seen of Windows Vista so far is anything to go by, we won't need desktop support engineers when things go wrong, we'll need a priest with holy water.

Installed Vista beta2 on my laptop last night, uninstalled it and replaced it with WinXp & SP2 this morning ;)

Don't worry mate, you n' me will be dead by the time they finally release it. Latest estimates are 2 years from now...

It officially sucks big donkeys cocks though. Looks rough, doesn't work and they've already patched it!!!!

I rarely defend Microsoft but....

Vista is fine if you have a machine that can handle the extra resource requirements. You will probably find that your machine hasnt the bollox to run it properly. Also remember its a beta so they havent fine tuned it and Microsoft openly admit that most things will run slowly.

My desktop at home scores a nice 3 out of 5 and i've had no problems running anything yet. My laptop gets a 2/3 rating and to be honest still no problems running anything (although i'm just running music related apps). For both machines i have a harddrive setup for Vista and one for XP. That way i get to play with both worlds.

Remember we all dont like change :) but this isnt a bad setup at all.
