Orbital Live Gigs Loopz Project

Published by

orbital live image
How about listing every Orbital gig that has ever happened?

We did something similar on the original Loopz website and it was a bit too much detailed for my liking. Ended up being a long hard piece of work collecting the photos, setlists, audio and video etc.

We wanted to try this again but keep it simple. Below this blurb, we will detail all the gigs from day one and there will be a load of missing gaps. Could you please help fill the gaps and we will make sure you get a shoutout, on the page for your contribution.

The doctor prescribed me Phentermine from https://nuestroblog.com/buy-phentermine/ for weight loss, which I’m very grateful for. I bet this pain can understand only those who have the same problem. I’m on the waiting list for surgery and, tramadol is the only one that helps to relieve the pain completely. I feel a bit sleepy after taking a pill, but I don’t think this problem is worse than the pain.

I started the ball rolling ….

Sorry , just need to correct myself ! The Guilfest headline slot on July 16th 2010 was a Friday night , not a Saturday .

  18. lucon 11 Mar 2014 at 10:28 pm

at some point in the beginning of the 90s , there was a gig at de westergasfabriek, amsterdam.. there is some TV footage of that. I remember!

  19. mark gage aka vapourspaceon 12 Mar 2014 at 12:12 am

    steve loopz,
the show in LA on nov 13th 1993 seemed doomed from the start.
first, it was the 13th and (if i remember correctly) a friday.
second, it was right after the rodney king riots in LA (again if memory serves).
third and finally, the fire marshall of Los Angeles came to examine the venue and held up opening the gate to let everyone into the event. after he did his inspection, he refused to allow the event to go forward. moby, richard james (aphex twin), phil+paul and myself were taken to the tour bus where we were told the gig was cancelled. we were told to get off the bus calmly, go into the venue and tear our gear down and load out as quickly as possible and get back on the bus. by the time we got on the bus, there was probably over 1,000 people outside the gate of the venue and the bus was blocked in. the LA police arrived in full riot gear and pushed the crowd down the street. the bus and equipment truck took off and headed for the final night of the tour in san francisco the following night.
    hot, crazy day in LA!

  20. Loopzon 26 Mar 2014 at 10:24 pm

Mark – What a great story. Thanks for sharing.

  27. Nick Howellson 12 Mar 2014 at 11:00 am

9th May 1996 was at Royal Albert Hall London, United Kingdom
Support from U-Ziq (Mu-Ziq) (Mike Paradinas) however you want to spell it!

14th May 2001 in Bristol was at the Colston Hall, Bristol
Supporting The Altogether album, Doctor ? was definitely played to much rejoicing! Fairly certain Tootled, Tension and Funny Break made it into the set with a load of classics, fairly confident a lot of Snivilisation (Forever, Sad But True and Are We Here?) made it into the set too.

I will try and find my tickets of the above and submit them, how do we submit images?

I know I have one spare, unused ticket for one of the Brixton Academy gigs in June 2004 (their last ever (theatre / arena) gig!, until the festivals that summer, and reformation).

  28. Loopzon 26 Mar 2014 at 10:13 pm

Was at that Bristol gig as well 🙂 Strange venue i always found but still enjoyed it. Thanks for the contributions.

  29. Charlie Boxallon 12 Mar 2014 at 8:15 pm

Not sure I you have these yet:

V96 Chelmsford – certain tracks on the Satan CDs were recorded live here. When will Orbital return to grace England’s newest city?

April 2012 Brighton Dome (secret) gig. Amazing, awesome to win tickets to it, loved having to ring the number to find the location, couldn’t understand the woman, had to get others to work out what she was saying!

  30. Loopzon 26 Mar 2014 at 10:11 pm

Will work on the satan live cds dates later. Brighton secret gig added. Another great night.

  31. Charlie Boxallon 12 Mar 2014 at 8:24 pm

Thanks Dave. I think you are getting Megadog Solar Eclipse Festival mixed up with 10th August – Total Eclipse Festival (i was there!) 🙂 They were in USA in July that year.

Didnt check if this is in the comments but 29th dec 1999 in the point depot, dublin, with basement jaxx and roger sanchez for cream 2000

  51. Nick Howellson 27 Mar 2014 at 9:36 am

The Colston Hall is mainly booked for theatrical and comedy type shows so yeah it is surprising Orbital booked it for a gig, the small dancefloor and banks of seats behind it was a weird experience. My friends and I piled forward from our seats at the start and danced like little monkeys the whole show, excellent fun! They maybe should have played the Academy for its bigger dancefloor.

I remember the gig at Brixton in June 2004 was a bit of a downer as England had just lost on Penalties to Portugal in Euro 2004, the Rooney injury, Campbell goal ruled out at the end, the Beckham and Vassell missed penalties, grrrr!

    Hi Steve,

    Torhhout/Werchter Camping Festival was 1995 – see http://www.rockwerchter.be/en/history/detail/rock-torhout-rock-werchter-1995

… the following is not to be published:
sorry – next time I will deliver the data for you in a more proper and convinient way:
21st May – Kampnagel, Hamburg, Germany
22nd May – Wartesaal, Cologne, Germany
23rd May – Roehre, Stuttgart, Germany
24th May – Vibration, Karlsruhe, Germany
25th May – Arena, Berlin, Germany
2nd Jun – Nachtwerk, Munich, Germany

I remember meeting you 2 times by accident: At sommerset just before the supporting act. Do you remeber: the rain started when orbital took the stage and ended exactly when they left it again ? nevertheless a awesome gig and venue. And the second time I think ist was some years later @Brixton….

    Thanks fro your work!

Toronto and Detroit in 2001! And then you tried to convince me to go on to Chicago as well… those were the days!

  54. matt christieon 28 Mar 2014 at 11:16 am

Can’t believe this one hasn’t been mentioned yet…

    1994 – 25th Jun – Glastonbury Festival

Also just a few days before they did a Glasto warm up gig for part of Trance Europe Express 2 CD promotion as well which had Darren Emerson DJing before them and Mixmaster Morris doing an awesome chill out set upstairs. Went to this as we were going to Glasto it was an awesome intimate little gig.

1994 – 23rd Jun – Trance Europe Express Night, Leisure Lounge, Holborn, London, England

For you nerds out there set list was:

    Forever
    Sad But True
    Impact USA
    Remind
    Walk Now/About
    Are We Here

    -Encore-

    Halcyon

Halcyon didn’t get played two days later at Glasto.

  55. matt christieon 28 Mar 2014 at 2:58 pm

those winter USA dates for 1996 is from the tour itinerary so maybe the dates changed or some shows might not have gone ahead if anyone knows any info.
My reason for questioning some of this is that loopz has a real audio recording from New Orleans which is dated 23rd Nov not 28th Nov like my list above.

Actually just did some checking and it seems 28th Nov for New Orleans is the correct date.

  56. matt christieon 28 Mar 2014 at 4:21 pm

Sorry for overloading you there Loopz but think that will fill in a few more gaps.

I’ll see if I have anything else listed anywhere and I’ll check my bootlegs cds to see if there are any there not listed.

    Matt 🙂

  57. Loopzon 31 Mar 2014 at 4:23 pm

thanks for all your updates Matt. Looking really good now 🙂

  58. Sidon 02 Apr 2014 at 7:34 pm

Steve, just looking at the dates takes me back to some amazing evenings and it’s great reading other peoples comments and memories. A big thank you to you as well for all the website work over the years mate, hope you’ve still got that award safe and sound 🙂
    x

  59. Loopzon 03 Apr 2014 at 7:13 am

    Thanks Sid

The pleasure and privilege is mine 🙂 where would we be now if we didn’t have Orbital to bring together these like minded individuals 🙂

met loads of great people doing the Loopz thing and I suspect there will be still a few more to meet in the future.

It did get a little crazy when a bunch of us, would just jet off to a random location to see Orbital. Loved our visit to Athens! That I will never forget!

As for the award, I still have it 🙂

    http://www.opdesign.no/index.php?/poster/quart/

  65. matt christieon 09 Apr 2014 at 12:50 pm

Loopz I’m pretty sure this date:

May 1994 – Megadog – Midi Circus – Sheffield Leadmill.

is wrong. The Midi Circus tour was 1993 not 94.

Cant seem to find any info on a show at Sheffield though for 1993, except an entry in the old Loopz forums stating it was on June 9th, but that doesnt make sense as thats the opening night of the tour at Brighton which we know was correct but it possibly was July 9th if it happened. Think Sheffield and Leeds were added near end of the Midi Circus tour as the tour was proving such a success.

Can anyone confirm with tickets scans or anything else from Midi Circus tour dates in Sheffield or Leeds????

  66. matt christieon 14 Apr 2014 at 1:54 pm

    Steve,

    This date:
Thu 27th Dec 1990 – The Grasshoper, Westerham, England

wasn’t this supposed to be their first Live date? Was this maybe 1989? The old Loopz site says this was in 1989. And i found an article which said the date was in the summer. So there seems to be a bit of confusion around this one

  67. matt christieon 14 Apr 2014 at 1:56 pm

“Orbital made their live debut in the summer of 1989 at the Grasshopper, Westerham, Kent, joining the ffrr Records imprint shortly afterwards.”
    http://www.oldies.com/artist-biography/Orbital.html

Where did the 27th Dec 1990 date info come from?

  68. J@Mon 14 Apr 2014 at 7:56 pm

Orbital played ‘Evil Eddie Richards club night Outer Limits at Rayzells Nightclub, Bletchley, Milton Keynes on February 17th 1990. The set list was Satan, LC2, Omen and Chime into Son of Chime (same track appeared on the Live at the Brain LP). I was in attendance and remember the night very clearly for personal reasons. I also have a recording of the night

    Cheers

    J

  69. matt christieon 28 Feb 2015 at 3:01 am

To J@M – did you catch any of the other early sets? Would love to hear more about them as anyone who was at them seems to have been pretty out of it and cannot remember much.
Would love to know what it was like hearing L.C.2 and Omen live especially. Matt

  70. matt christieon 28 Feb 2015 at 3:04 am

and that date in Milton Keynes on Feb 17th 1990 will be the earliest confirmed date we have. And man it was in Milton Keynes! That was so close to me in Northampton…would’ve been great to have gone to that.

  76. KDLon 13 Nov 2015 at 4:08 pm

Better late than never, but the 1994 Roskilde Festival gig can be confirmed here: http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/music/1994?view=list

Not a bad night that, with Björk, Underworld and Orbital all doing their live stuff, and Derrick May DJ’ing inbetween.

  79. Eugene S.on 03 May 2016 at 4:50 am

In 1992 I caught Orbital live on their Communion Tour opening up for Ultramarine and Meat Beat Manifesto. The gig I saw them live at took place at the old Park Plaza building in Downtown Los Angeles (the same location where the Scream nightclub was held during the 1980’s). You can also see more of this building / club in the movie “Less Than Zero” starring Robert Downey Jr. There’s a scene where he’s trying to get his dad to invest money into a nightclub (filmed on the staircase) and inside the club where he’s dancing to “Fire” by Jimi Hendrix. Sadly, I don’t have my ticket stub anymore from this show but I remember paying $15.00 to see all 3 bands. I went mainly to see MBM but let that night impressed by Orbital and Ultramarine that I went out and bought Orbital’s “green” album and Ultramarine’s “Every Man and Woman is a Star”. When Orbital took the small stage there was hardly anyone there. I remember standing right up close in front of there gear and was very careful not to knock over anything or distract them. Both brothers were wearing their trademark glasses with the flashlights. I was a great show.

  80. David Dodsonon 02 Jul 2019 at 4:26 am

1992 shows opening for Meat Beat Manifesto with Ultramarine unless otherwise described:

Nov 16 Boulder, CO – Communion Tour
Nov 17 Salt Lake City, UT DV8 – Communion Tour
Nov 19 San Francisco, CA The Bridge – Communion Tour
Nov 20 San Diego, CA Soma – Communion Tour
Nov 21 Los Angeles, CA Park Plaza Hotel – Communion Tour
Nov 24 Dallas, TX Deep Ellum Live – Communion Tour
Nov 25 Houston, TX Numbers – Communion Tour
    * DJs: Tony Fletcher & M.C. Neville Wells, (MC) Dave Kendall, `Communion’s two other DJs’, `the best local DJs from each city will open and close proceedings’
Nov 27 Ybor City (Tampa), FL Ritz Theatre – Communion Tour
Nov 28 Orlando, FL Visage – Communion Tour
Nov 29 Virginia Beach, VA The Machine – Communion Tour
Nov 31 New York City, NY Limelight – Communion Tour
Dec 2 Philadelphia, PA The Trocadero – Communion Tour
Dec 3 Boston, MA Axis – Communion Tour
Dec 5 Detroit/Pontiac, MI Industry – Communion Tour
Dec 6 Chicago, IL Cabaret Metro – Communion Tour
    * Orbital, Ultramarine DJs: Tony Fletcher & M.C. Neville Wells, `Communion’s two other DJs’ `the best local DJs from each city will open and close proceedings’

    From http://www.digitalchemist.com/mbm/history/1992.shtml

I was at the Boston show at Axis on December 3rd.

Ultramarine opened and filled the stage during their performance. The moment the finished, “and now behind you, the latest techno sensation from the UK. Orbital!”
They were set up on a riser at the back of the crowd with all their gear and the light glasses and did a set that predicted what Orbital 2 and Divergence would be (only their debut album was released at the time).

While they played, Ultramarine broke down and Meat Beat set up seamlessly to announce Meat Beat the moment Orbital was done, with Meat Beat rear ng into Fire Number 9 to start the show off with Satyricon being the new Meat Beat album. The way that show was organized has been a long time inspiration for how I try to make my own productions.

  81. David Dodsonon 02 Jul 2019 at 4:29 am

Also, I could be wrong, but, I think this was their debut US tour.

  82. Courtneyon 08 Jul 2017 at 9:58 pm

They were at Lollapalooza in Charlotte, NC at the Blockbuster Pavilion on 28 June 1997.

  83. Shawnon 07 Nov 2017 at 11:28 pm

    Hello,

I can confirm for you the Point Theatre date in 1999. Even though I am from New York, I can confirm it because I was there. I traveled out to the UK for “Cream 2000” in Liverpool- where Orbital rang in the millennium at the stroke of midnight. Two days prior however, we went to Dublin to see the amazing show they put on at the Point. Great show. I even have a ticket stub of the events if you would like scans sent over. Hope that fills in some missing info for you!

    -Shawn

  84. Matt Russellon 17 Dec 2017 at 7:33 am

I had confirmed the July 1st 1997 date for Virginia Beach, Va for Lollapalooza on the old Loopz site, along with a set list. I can still confirm that show.

  85. Stevenon 30 Dec 2017 at 11:03 pm

I can confirm the Aylesbury gig in October 1994 as my mum wouldn’t let me attend it (I was 13). I know older friends who attended and said it was a blinding performance. I seem to recall a photo in the local newspaper as the stage was set-up in the middle of the venue.

  86. Rolandon 25 Jan 2020 at 11:44 pm

    Stockholm Globe 1994? Dec?

  87. Tony Daveyon 02 Aug 2020 at 10:03 pm

Hi, I saw them play at a ‘secret’ gig in Toronto in November 94. I was travelling across the country and came across a flyer advertising the gig in a secret location that was only revealed on the day. If I remember right it was a TV studio warehouse. Went on my own and remember it being a top night
