Just suppose.........
You had the choice of a double cd featuring any Orbital remixes/rarities that you could wish for, what would you want on there?
PS - What is the rarest Orbital recording/release that is akin to the holy grail out there?

Re: Just suppose.........
As a 'shitgeek' I couldn't get anywhere near to compiling a rarities album.
As far as the rare Orbital items are concerned....
Mutations is still, I think, the hardest to get CD
Trupak is also quite rare
The Maida Vale T shirt has been described by Loopz as 'like rocking horse shit'. Unfortunately they only did them in children's sizes...
I for one would really like to get hold of the Orbital-sponsored Otford football shirt.

Re: Just suppose.........
That's a hard one.
Can't really think of anything that's ultra rare - generally most Orbital releases & remixes are out there somewhere ( ) in the public domain.
Tru-pak & Mutations are quite rare, but with familiar stuff on it.
I would prefer something more obscure & interesting.........
Ones that I can think off:-
Equinox
Lush (Salt Tank Remix)
TX:Nothing (I know that it was on the telly & also a lot of soundscapes ended up on The Altogether, but would be nice if the original recording could be released)
The Visit (Again I've heard samples that are on here, but again would be nice to hear in high quality)
MBM - Edge Of No Control (Take Control - Orbital Reply) Had this CD single but lost it somewhere - if I remember it was a great deep house/techno groove but had a really jarring female vocal that kind of ruined it. Would love to hear an alternative mix without the vocals.
Drum Club - Alchemy (Phasers on Dub Mix) - Only available on Dub Disco 2000 compilation??? (Had this on tape but some git nicked it from my high school!)
There's also the old EMF, Queen Latifa, Soft Ballet, Vibe Tribe, Arbhaart remixes, again would be nice to hear them remastered.
More interesting to me would be if some of the unreleased stuff was made available, things like rejected remixes, unused cues for films & stuff that the boys simply didn't think was worthy of releasing at the time, similar to what FSOL have done with their "From The Archives" series........any thoughts about asking them Loopz???

We've been spoiled with the FSOL Archive releases. Lots of awesome stuff to be found in those. To see something along those lines from Orbital would be a real treat.
By the way I ripped audio off a DVD copy of Nothing I obtained. Wonderful stuff. I consider it to be the rarest piece of Orbital I have.

Re: Just suppose.........
I dug that out today, "Death Row USA", from the Loopz Radio last day broadcast.
Loopz played quite a few gems that day.
Listened to a few others and I think a Rarities & remixes CD compilation set would be a GREAT idea.
Stuff to maybe include (the first 6 tracks being ones Loopz played on that last radio broadcast):
"Death Row USA"
"Satan Spawn (Version 1 - Unreleased)
"Untitled" - (this was another track from the Green era NOT the "Untitled" from the Green Album tape" sounded really good.
"Open Mind (Live @ Paradiso 1999)" Always loved the live version of this, was just always too short.
"Hackers Unused" 1.43sec this is like a combination of Halcyon and The Girl With The Sun In Her Head. Only short but great.
"An Fromhair (Live @ Paradiso 1999) - best version of this tune and loved it when it got played live.
SOME TRACKS THAT HAVE ONLY BEEN RELEASED ON VINYL:
"Deeper" (The full 15mins version b-side to the original release of Chime)
"2 Deep" (labelled on the Omen CD single but isn't actually on it.)
"Satan (The Rhyme & Reason Vocal Remix)" a lot of people may not like this but I do. Although if a version exists of the version of the track without the vocals that would be AMAZING.
"LC2 (Outer Limits Remix)"
"Nothing Left (Tsnami DJ Dub)" - great promo only mix
"Lush 3-3 (Underworld)" - as the FULL LENGTH has never been on CD. The Lush CD single cut it down to 12.38, Diversions had it at 13.01 but the vinyl is 13.17
"Frenetic (Smith & Ronan's Late Nite Dub)" - vinyl only promo
The Mutations that weren't on the CD single: "Oolaa (Meat Beat Manifesto Mutation)", "Chime (Ray Keith Mutation)", "Chime (Joey Beltram Mutation)", "Steel Cube Idolatry (Dave Angel & Dave Dorell Mutation)"
"Son Of Chime (Live @ The Brain)" Only on a compilation vinyl but a great early version of Chime live, quite different.

Re: Just suppose.........
OTHER RARE BITS AND REMIXES:
"Semi-Detached (Original)" - from Trance Europe Express cd
"P.E.T.R.O.L. (Original)" - from Wipeout cd.
"(Rolf's) Style" - early version from promo only MON album
"Beached (Radio Edit without Leo)" - promo cd only
"Lush 3 (Salt Tank Remixes) - there are 2 of them and they are very nice. Should've been released at the time
"Equinox" - original demo-type version of "Times Fly" from compliation cd
"Midnight (Sasha Remix)" Vinyl only from remix 12''
DRUM CLUB - "Alchemy (Phasers On Dub)" - the FULL LENGTH version has never been on CD.
CONFUSION - "Joy (Orbital Remix)"
"Ska'd For Life" (Instrumental)" - only on vinyl so far.
KARL BARTOS - "I'm The Message (Orbital Remix)"
"Initiation"
And anything else we may not have heard of like unreleased material, a couple of other live bits maybe, and other versions of tracks I think would go to make a up a good compilation.
Now you're probably all looking at that and saying that'd be a lot, but if the boys were to release something like this then why not do it properly? And if it did get done then lets hope it gets put into a great packaged box set type of thing. Something sort of like the recent Warp 20 Box Set. Maybe not as elaborate as that but in bloody nice packaging would be very nice.
Sorry I seem to have gone on a bit of a nerd rant there. Just thought the idea of a collection like this would be pretty cool.
Suggestions for title:
Orbital - "M25" - A rarities, remixes and unreleased Collection
DISC 1: NORTHBOUND
DISC 2: SOUTHBOUND
DISC 3: CIRCULAR
(DISC 4: ROADWORKS?) If they'd need that many discs?
Ok i'll stop now and take my medication....

Re: Just suppose.........
I just thought of something else that'd be awesome to have on it, if they could get permission from the BBC:
Sad But New/Times Fly (Live ISDN night Radio One 25.03.95)
Great versions of those tracks from that night, spoiled by Jo Whiley talking all over the end of Times Fly.

Re: Just suppose.........
I like your ideas Badger.
I always thought the P.E.T.R.O.L. (Wipeout Mix) was just the live version of it. I always did like it better than the album version. It was also the first Orbital track I heard.
I would put down my money for a few releases/box set/compilation put out if it was all done in a legit and tasteful manner.
